zSpace allows students to inquire, take risks, solve problems, and apply their learning while building confidence and expanding interest in STEM and STEM careers. Teachers at the Feast got to experience all that Zspace has to offer when the tour bus stopped by for 3 days. Teachers learned to sculpt, the inner workings of the heart and peeled away layers of a dinosaur. One lucky teacher even won a Zspace system for his school! This week at the Teacher Feast teachers participated in an Escape Box Challenge and learned how to incorporate this type of challenge in their own classrooms.
Author Gillian King-Cargile shared her writing process with 4th graders from Sheridan School today. She talked about her writing recipe and the students were able to create their own stories while experiencing STEM activities throughout the day to enhance their story ideas. This was a high energy day filled with great experiences.
3rd graders loved their first STEM Read experience!
After a lot of planning we hosted our first D87 STEM Read field trip for 3rd graders. The day was filled with first hand experiences from Hurricane Katrina, engineering challenges and a great energy. Students worked in teams of 4 to protect their time travel lab from a hurricane, determined what equipment would help them survive in a disaster, were challenged to help the class bully when in need and learned what their chances of survival might have been if they were on the Titanic. We weren't able to coordinate our date with author Lauren Tarshis, but we did enjoy a great video she created for us about her writing process and inspirations.
